I’ve spent a lot of time lately trying to meet people. Paris is gorgeous, but it doesn’t talk to you, and it most certainly doesn’t hug you back!
Friday, I treated myself to the theatre. But not just any theatre… La Comédie-Française! I saw Shakespeare’s Le Songe d’une nuit d’été (Midsummer Night’s Dream). It was entirely in French, but unlike English, French hasn’t changed as a language all that much since Shakespeare’s time. I understood about half of the words, and 3/4 of what was going on so I call that a win! Plus, I got to talk to a real Parisian who was sitting next to me.
Saturday, I went to a Thai Spa. If you haven’t been to one, you simply must go. I haven’t been able to find too many at home, but whenever I’m away I flock to them. I’ve been dabbling on a side project doing Spa reviews, pardon the dust on this website, but if you want to read more about the spa, head on over: SpaPlease.com
Saturday night, I went over to O Chateaux to try out some wine. It was pretty awesome. They had wine bottles on tap there (see photos). And I ate a whole cheese plate. Also, I had the nerve to ask the guys next to me to take a silly photo of their cigarettes with their wine glass (in French) because I thought it was interesting how everyone smokes even though it clearly says Smoking Kills (Fumer Tue) on the packages.
Sunday you already know about :) See previous post
On Monday, I did the Fat Tire Bike Tour (click here to see their site) and it was a ton of fun. The weather was gorgeous, 72 and partly cloudly, and the company was nice too. It was an English speaking tour, so it was the first time I was actually able to have a full conversation with someone here. I’ve reached out Parisians previously, but only with small talk or little questions, not to have a conversation. It was gorgeous! But I wanted to enjoy it, so I only took one photo.
Tuesday I checked out an ExPat meetup group my sister, Kate, forwarded me. They were doing a movie meetup to see Dancing in Jaffa, which was a lot of fun. It was good to make friends, get some food with other people, watch a movie, and then grab drinks! Sometimes it’s the little things in life. The movie theatre was awesome, clean and had really cool seats, but most importantly, I met people who live in Paris and that I may actually see again (this Friday actually).
Wednesday was a wash. I spent all day waiting for a package that I ordered from Amazon.fr, only to miss it but not get a notification that I missed it until 6 hours after I missed it… French me fail. But today I happened to catch it! And now I know my landline number for sure. All good things. I ordered a Phillips Wake Up Light that uses light to wake you up instead of noise. And it also doubles as a night light. My apartment is very dark, and I’ve been sleeping in ridiculously late every day by accident. I don’t really need 12 hours of sleep a night…
Found an awesome cafe for brunch today, and they had Lattes! Something that is kind of hard to find here. And now I’m working at a place called AntiCafé, where you pay for time and internet and you get free refreshments and snacks. They even made me American coffee. Loving it here. Such a great atmosphere, other people working around me, both French and English speakers. I want to bring it home.
